Oblation Papers & Press

Oblation Papers & Press is an Oregon family business since 1989. We are an old-world letterpress print shop, urban paper mill and fine European style paper boutique specializing in custom wedding invitations, baby announcements, and social stationery. We use traditional techniques to create 100% recycled cotton sheets of paper by hand. Our paper is strong, acid-free, and perfectly suited for letterpress printing. We print each of our custom orders by antique letterpress using soy-based inks and wind power.

You got engaged... Congratulations!  Now, how to let everyone know... and how to invite them to the wedding?

Save the Dates

'Save the Dates' have replaced the traditional announcements of years past and are an extremely popular way of spreading the good news of your engagement.

Their design can vary from a more classic, letterpressed card to fun and whimsical magnets featuring your favorite engagement portraits.  In general, we recommend sending your save the dates soon after the wedding date is chosen and set.  Remember to hire your photographer if you're going to use a professional engagement photo.  This timeframe is generally between 4 - 12 months before the wedding day, which gives your loved ones plenty of time to plan.

Invitations

One of the hottest trends in recent years is to create a theme for your wedding day and then integrate that theme throughout your invitations, color palette, decore, and even your cake!  Your invitations set the tone for your wedding and can be the first introduction of your theme to your guests.  Here are 7 things to consider when designing your invitations:

  1. What is your color palette or theme?
  2. Will it be formal or casual?
  3. What type of printing will you be using?
  4. Will you be creating a wedding logo or monogram?  Using a specific font?
  5. Will you hire a professional to create your invitation or are you planning on designing, researching paper stocks, printing, cutting, folding, assembling, embellishing, addressing, and mailing them yourselves?
  6. How many invitations will you need?  Make sure postage is in the budget!
  7. If you are doing large quantities, look into special effects like metallics and letterpressing.  Large orders will often qualify for bulk pricing which makes special options cost effective for big weddings.
